Smithfield Foods recently donated $4,000 to the United Way of Wilson County's United, We Care
initiative. The program assists students identified under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act within Wilson County Schools.
"Smithfield is deeply rooted in the communities we serve, and we believe in supporting our neighbors during challenging times,” said Antiquea Allen, Wilson facility manager for Smithfield Foods. “Supporting the United Way of Wilson County is one way we demonstrate our commitment because when our local youth and communities thrive, we all thrive.”
In Wilson County, nearly one in three children live in poverty, and hundreds face housing instability. United, We Care helps close this gap by providing immediate assistance, such as providing stable housing, supplying food and clothing and ensuring access to enrichment opportunities.
“This generous donation from Smithfield means more than words can express,” said Judi Thurston, executive director of the United Way of Wilson County. “Smithfield’s support is a lifeline for children who are moving from place to place, living in motels, doubled up or without a stable place to call home. It gives us the ability to step in immediately with food, clothing and safe shelter, along with compassion and reassurance. Our children deserve to feel supported and valued, and Smithfield’s commitment to our community helps make that possible.”
Smithfield's support will help provide these students with the foundation and sense of security they need to thrive. This partnership underscores Smithfield’s commitment to strengthening communities and supporting families where its employees live and work.
